ROOTS OF THE WESTMORELAND FAMILY
IN ENGLAND
An analysis of all IGI records for England (admittedly not fully comprehensive)
reveal some unexpected facts. We did not start out as a Yorkshire
family despite the fact that in the 19th and 20th centuries the vast majority
of Westmoreland families in the United Kingdom were born in Yorkshire.
16th CENTURY
The earliest Westmoreland family recorded in the IGI was in London in
the Ludgate area where two families were having children baptised at St
Martin's Church in the mid-16th century.
